This course will introduce the student to the fundamentals of transportation engineering – from planning and design to operations. The multimodal nature of transportation will be demonstrated by studying non-highway modes. The relationship of transportation to other disciplines – even disciplines outside engineering – will become clear. Perhaps most important, the student will see how a transportation engineer can – and should – practice the profession in today’s world.
